pending payment for being a chauffeur, party planner, personal planner, and English tutor
this post is dedicated to a good friend, perry kin-fo yip, who visited Canada from november 16 to 20, 2006.
for those who don't know perry... he was in 4th year at Queen's way back when i was in 1st year. he was my cell group leader, my Overcomer head, the Fob Emperor and well, just an overall friend. i commented to him in the car that weekend about how i think God has just a remarkable way of bringing His people together. if perry had never gone to Canada or if i had never gone to Queen's nor fast-tracked, how would we have become friends? even a one-year friendship can last a lifetime. perry, visit again and don't forget to invite me to your wedding! haha...
let's outline the crazy weekend i had being his chauffeur, personal assistant and party planner...

(i begin my first job as a chauffeur....)
10:30am: visiting downtown toronto (b/c i had to get him to hand in my assignment for me since i had to skip school to drive him to kingston)...
he's obsessed with fedex b/c he works for them now in HK...
views along bloor...
1pm: we went all the way up to hwy 7 for some kbbq before heading up to kingston.
2:30pm: we had to stop for some timmy's on the way to kingston... perry's first french vanilla cap of the weekend!
----------------------------------------------------------------
i lost this post 2 times b/c blogger would screw up as i loaded my last few pictures on the page. as a result, i've abandoned trying to load pictures on blogger and have posted the picture version of the rest of the adventures with perry on my flicker instead. so there you'll find the corresponding pictures that match the descriptions below.
----------------------------------------------------------------
4:30pm: when we got into kingston, we headed straight to pastor lo's house for some sharing and catch-up. it was good to just talk about the good ol' days and talk about how all the people in HK are doing.
6pm: perry had a huge craving for dong nai's pho, so we picked up steph and headed there with pastor lo and sally. it was good food... not to mention some kccf cell groups were having the B52 challenge there. haha...
7:30pm: we decided to hit up the kccf canto cell group for their cell group night. perry decided to impart his wisdom to them for 2o minutes of introduction -- everything from back in the day to where to eat breakfast (i.e. easy riser at jduc) and where to eat dinner (i.e. dong nai). it was a blessing even for me to be back. when i graduated last year, we counted that 5 people would be left to carry on the canto cell but there's more than 18 people part of the cell group! yay! :)
10pm: after cell group, we went to pick up steph and chewy at their cell group night and headed over to pat's house where josh was visiting. it was some good times laughing at perry's english and just talking about hot pot nights and scary movies. pat finally knows what we're all talking about when we talk about perry!
1:30am: the night still isn't over. we went to visit chewy's bachelor pad and was amazed at how everything is so neatly packed together... after he blew up the mattress, we could only stand in the kitchen and marvel at how small a bachelor apartment is for the ridiculous amount that he pays for it!
2:30am: so i finally leave perry at chewy's and head to 311 to sleepover at steph's. a long day it's been...
4am: 20 hours from when i first wake up, i finally get to bed.
(saturday) november 18, 2006
9am: wake up because chewy has to kick perry out of his apartment due to worship team practice
9:30am: jackie comes over and we head over to windmill's for some breakfast
11am: we begin our reminiscent tour of kingston... starting from barrie to division to the campus bookstore to the lake to the residences to vic hall to mac-correy to dunning to stauffer to jduc to ilc.
2:30pm: three and a half hours later, we finally return to 311 to pick up steph to head back to toronto
6pm: i had planned a dinner party for as much people as i can contact. (this is the part where i'm the "party planner"). it turned out being more of the canto cell group but it was still good. the thing i admire about perry is... he really tried to get to know both the english and the canto side of kccf. maybe it's just perry... who can't love him? haha....
8pm: dinner is done... but don't worry, there's an "after-party" at second cup as we wait for people to rejoin us
11:30pm: time to move across the parking lot to a chinese dessert place
1am: i finally get home after dropping perry and his luggage off at james'
(sunday) november 19, 2006
9am: pick up perry and his luggage to go to the car rental place
10am: i'm on my way to church and perry is on his way to hwy 7
this is my day off, but during the day, perry periodically calls his "personal assistant" to ask what i've planned for him on monday.
P: what's the plan tomorrow?
M: i've talked to felicity. she'll have lunch with you. call her at 10am. vivien is done class at 1pm. she'll call you when she's done. tell felicity to lead you to the nearest subway station to pick her up. viv will take you souvenir shopping at scarborough town centre. i finish school at 4:30pm. i'll call you and then when i get back home, we'll meet to drop off the car. dinner plans are at 6:30pm tomorrow.
P: thanks! see you tomorrow.
(monday) november 20, 2006
as mentioned above, perry pretty much as his day planned.
5:30pm: i meet up with perry and viv at the car rental place
6:30: we're at moxie's fairview for dinner. finally, bernard can join us.
8:15pm: time to head off to the airport! feli, edmond, grace, viv and i head off to send perry off to the airport.
9:45pm: after dawdling for a LONG time and having a very abrupt good-bye... perry finally enters the customs gates and he's gone. when will he be back again? no idea... but i know that i enjoyed every moment of my job. now, i'm just waiting to get paid... :) just kidding! perry, come back soon!
aside: btw, i can't wait to see all you HK people again!
2 Comments:
If you can't wait, then come to HK again. HK has changed a bit since you last visited.
