things from the past two weeks.... it's long, but it's truly worth the read.

let's go in reverse chronological order:
1) asian semi
last night was asian semi... yes, that's right. i WENT to asian semi. Judy, one of the nursing housemates, is going back to Toronto for the winter term to do her clinical placement at York Central. so we decided that our whole house would go together.
i didn't really mind going to asian semi for Judy, but what i've been bugged about is how clubbing has somehow become a Christian scene. (don't get me wrong b/c i'm not talking about anyone specific, but just personal convictions.) recently, i had an encounter in a Christian circle and there was pressure to go clubbing.... i was so tempted to yell, "if you want to go clubbing, that's your decision. don't drag someone else who doesn't want to go with you." the Bible has never explicitly said, "don't go clubbing" and i won't dubb it wrong but i just think it's a personal conviction.
anyways, we had Bible Study at fellowship before asian semi. and i got to pray before we ended. half my cell group was going to the semi and so i said something like, "God, I know that many of us have after-fellowship activities to go to. I just pray that whatever it is, that we won't be doing something that compromises our integrity as Christians."
and guess what? the most random-ist thing happened. nearly all my fellowship friends got there around the same time so we all lined up for 45 minutes or so and couldn't get in. we just stood crammed up in some tiny room waiting and waiting and waiting... UNTIL THE POLICE CAME. apparently, there was too much underage drinking and throwing up going on inside that the Queen's Student Constables felt that they needed to get things in control so they weren't letting anymore people in. so that's how my asian semi evening ended. instead, we all went to Denny's to eat. i went to bed thinking, "God, you have such a humour with things."

2) bake sale and Joe Boots
two tuesdays ago, i had lots of work to do but i decided to stop by the bake sale that my fellowship that provoked people to ask the question, "If you could ask God one question, what would it be?" and put their questions on post-its and stick it on a board. the bake sale was to raise money for Joe Boots, the canadian executive director of Ravi Zacharias Ministries, to speak on the topics that people asked about. my personal encounter with this one guy just stuck out at me. lemme tell you all about it in third person.

he came and looked at the board and asked, "what is this about?".
she answered, "we are asking people if you could ask God one question, what would it be?".
H: "which god are you talking about?".
S: "we're from Kingston Chinese Christian Fellowship, so we're Christians."
H: "oh, so the One True God."
then he reads the board, sees something, laughs and leaves.... thus leaving two speechless CCF people at the booth. ten minutes later, he comes back.
H: i realize that i blew you off earlier and that was wrong of me. but i wanted to ask... how do you know God exists?
S: uhhh... well, from creation, faith, Biblical accounts...
H: but you're not answering my question... how do you know God exists?
this goes on for a bit... and then...
H: like for example, i told you there was a flying super monkey... and i believe that that was God... so how would you know that your God really exists?
S: uhhh...
then some guy steps in that i've never seen before and discusses with him about the existence of God in a very philosophical way. and it goes on for like maybe a good 10-15 minutes. in the end, i don't think he had his question answered.

my heart was so burdened after he left. i just had this feeling that i have the good stuff, why couldn't i convince him of it? like this man, a fellow student, was searching for God. the question we asked him stayed with him even though he left our presence and his yearning to have his question answered was enough to bring him back ten minutes later. he had a deep longing for someone, something... hopefully God. but he was searching to see if this God really existed and no one could tell him because it is really only by faith. i don't have the answer. but i pray that you will pray for people like him. joe boot is coming this thursday (nov 17).... please pray that God will bring those who need Him most to come. amen.
