queen's homecoming, kingston, september 16-17, 2006

my first official homecoming as an alumni. what can i say about it? it was FANTABULOUS. though i have regrets about missing out on the sidewalk sale and not being able to get my yearbook! :( you know, the yearbook editor in me has every yearbook since i've been in kingston!

anywho, i wanted to highlight my 27 hours in kingston and the awesomeness of being there in the small and "ghetto" town i called home for 4 years.

anyways, i wanna say thanks for all these memories (see below) this weekend:
- lunch at "wok-in" with my sister, henry and alan and bumping into maggie, ada, jess, gideon and jacob there too
- walking downtown buying a card, looking at shoes@heel boy, books@indigo, kitchenstuff@kitchen stuff, games@minotaur
- going to 311 and seeing diane and grace
- upstairs to apt 11 and seeing gavin and matt
- walking to 184 with gavin and eventually playing tennis with gabe, jon li, alvi, beni, warren, jo ho, eric (also making esther come over to see me for a bit)
- going to the "frosh house" at 41 clergy and having japchae by daewon, meeting ryan, hanging out with stephen and james (fong)
- going back to 311 and seeing steph, vanessa, grace, and pete's friends
- going to panama reunion dinner with gladys, jackie, james fong, kevin lee, greg, and our special guest johnny wong
- visiting jackie's far-away home on king street and having talks
- finally seeing judy at 311
- sleeping at apt.2 and seeing queenie and vince
- waking up to michelle, becca and sammi... i love waking up to familiar faces (thanks again for letting me stay)
- bumping into kat on the street and having a really drunk 55-year-old man serenade us with two songs on a guitar and telling us that "God and Jesus made us special" (which was neat but strange at the same time... )
- going to church@KCAC and seeing chewy lead worship, hearing random-point-sermons by pastor lo and singing my favourite version of doxology
- seeing familiar faces at my lovely adopted church (KCAC) and seeing so many people serving (i.e. chewy singing!, alicia on piano, eleasa ushering, liz teaching sunday school, etc.)
- sitting in on lunch@VIP with sausage fest: terry, chewy, edmond, pat tang, joshy (who's visiting too!), gavin, ivan, jon lee, sam lee
- finally bumping into lincoln, mike, kwan and derek on the street because i didn't have their numbers all weekend!
- having real lunch with johnny, pat, steph, van, esther, will, alysa (uh-oh... i'm not sure how to spell it), and oliver
- saying goodbye to people
- finally getting in a car with grace, james fong, and victor heading back to the big TO
... i really miss that small ghetto town called kingston! :( i luf you guys and i hope i can have another reason to go up again soon

cottage trip 2006

oh yeah... cottage trip with some friends to end off the summer before the start of a new school year = FUN FUN FUN!

although i wish the weather was better and we could go sun-tanning and dancing in the water, i'm sooooooooooo happy i've got to spend time with some of my loved friends. it was amazing to just be in the same place with some people whom i haven't had a chance to be locked in a place with. i wish we had the privilege of doing this EVERY summer.

i loved the days when we used to have retreat with school because we'd just get on a bus and go to some far-off place and really spend some time with each other and God. though this year, we didn't have as much sharing as last time, it's still been awesome to get together. i loved the food, Cranium, company, sleep time, the lake, tranquility of being the only one awake in the whole house... i don't know. it was a good reminder of what it means to be with friends. i hope you guys had fun too. :)

i miss you guys already.

for some pics, go to here

first commute downtown to UT
on the other hand, i began my first commute to the University of Toronto for school-related reasons. i landed a job at the Bora Laskin Library (law library) at UT... come visit me Thursdays from 12-5pm at the circulation desk. anyways, today was supposed to be my first day of training and it takes an hour to get from my house to the library. when i get there, my supervisor has forgotten who i am... here's how the conversation went:

S being supervisor and M being me.
S: You are...?
M: I'm Melody.
S: Oh yes. Are you here for training? Is it today?
M: Yes.
(S looks down at calendar on her desk where it says 2-4pm Melody)
S: Oh yes... you have training today. Today is hectic. How about this? We cancel training and you come tomorrow for your training.
M: ....

Thank goodness for Emily who took of me for the next 4 hours with her supervisors/fellow summer student shopping on Queen Street. Hooking up some crazy mad deals. AND Emily's supervisor is in my department so I'll see her on Thursday at my orientation! yay! a familiar face! :)

anywho, that's it for now.
